Hot and Cold Water Systems

Over the last 100 years, hot and cold water systems have changed very little. Traditional systems would store cold water in tanks, feeding a hot water cylinder that would be heated by electric immersion, or by a boiler heated by solid fuel, oil or gas.

The introduction of power showers meant that our traditional hot water systems would need to change to accommodate our demands and needs. Ensuring that you have the right system to support your hot water requirements is extremely important. If you get this wrong you could be left disappointed and with a system that underperforms.

Which Water System Should I Choose?

An unvented cylinder is a water heater that is sealed to the atmosphere and connected directly to the mains water supply. This enables the systems to deliver mains pressure hot and cold water to all outlets. This option has become the preferred choice for many developers, heating engineers, architects and end-users due to the multiple benefits over traditional systems.

Unvented hot water cylinders are ideal if you are pushed for space as they don’t require a cold water storage tank. This also gives you more flexibility when siting the cylinder. The water can either be heated directly by your central heating system or indirectly by an immersion heater.

As all unvented cylinders rely on the mains supply for both pressure and flow, we recommend that adequate flow and pressure readings must be taken to establish the suitability of such systems. We would carry out these tests at the time of quotation.
